Two numbers define a tempered-glass screen protector: its hardness (always quoted as "9H") and its thickness (0.2mm to 0.4mm). One of them is more marketing than the other.

"9H hardness" — what it really means

9H is a pencil-hardness rating, not the Mohs mineral scale. It means the glass resists scratching by a 9H-grade pencil lead. Nearly every tempered glass on the market claims it, because tempered glass genuinely is that scratch-resistant.

What 9H does not tell you:

Drop protection. That comes from thickness and the glass's ability to absorb and spread impact, then crack instead of your screen.
Real-world scratch source. The thing that scratches phone screens is sand and grit (quartz, ~7 on the Mohs scale) in your pocket. 9H glass resists keys and coins but sand can still leave fine marks over time — on the protector, which is the point: it's the sacrificial layer.

Treat "9H" as table stakes. It doesn't differentiate one glass from another.
